Dick Powell is a big star lost in time. In his heyday in the Busby Berkeley extravaganzas he was extremely popular. It is not totally true that he did not make records. He did make recordings, but of songs not usually exclusive of the films in which he performed.

Yeah... I just fell in love with him... THAT VOICE!

HOW HE IS MISSED....
Thank you....

@Impowers So right about "The Conqueror"..other casualties were John Wayne, Susan Hayward and Agnes Moorehead..sad. Powell was a multi-talented star. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know his lovely wife, Miss June Allyson.

Powell and Vallee should've done a duet, their singing styles were similar enough. Powell was really talented, though, I just saw him in "Cry Danger" at MoMA and he was really good in a Bogart/Mitchum style role. He was apparently another radiation casualty of "The Conqueror," along with John Wayne and many of the principals, riding around in the freshly atomic bomb-irradiated dust on location in Utah.

I had heard it said that Rudy Vallee was one of the worst WML panelists. Now I see why.

Bennet Cerf is my favorite panelist---so much charm and wit!

He had such a wonderful voice. Charming in everything he did.
Pansy Crooner or Hardboiled Private Eye - Dick Powell was the greatest.
