  • I like the way you have efficiently used such a small space. Your plumbing especially through the glass is truly amazing. Although your video was very informative, a live visit would be much better. Then you would be able to observe more details. I see how you have taken care of the solid wastes, but can you tell me how you are dealing with ammonia/nitrites/nitrates?

    Kingjam

  • @kingjamwi We are using a temporary bio filter using nylon scrubber pads for media but there is too much maintenance. We are now building a larger permanent unit which uses k-1 plastic media. We will show that in the next video. Anyone who would like to see another very good backyard system should visit TheUrbanFarmingGuys here on You tube. They are doing some really good things.

  • Nice work! Never thought of using Sand Pool filter to filter fish tanks. How do you like it so far? Would it be more economical to heat the room with a room heater?

  • @ucdchan The filters work great (the only filters you can clean in a tux, ha) but are a little costly to run because of the pressure. Although may be worth it for the labor savings. As far as heating the room vs heating the water, I think it's a toss up since the only power we have available is elec.

  • looking good! Do you think the quantity of fish you produce will cover to cost of electricity to run the system?

  • @web4deb Last months electric bill was $85 bucks. I won't know how expensive that is until we see how many fish we can harvest per month. Right now, I'm not concerned. I just want to see the system developed then we can figure out how to economize. Steve.

hey can you go through your plumbing system like the whole thing and how it works? and where did you get the white totes at i looked and they where pretty expensive lol thinking about using a garbage can from lowes 96 gallon?

im building a green house and doing aquaponics for fun lol. Just about finished just trying to figure out how to heat and contain fish and water.

  • Excellent set-up, im looking to start a project like yourself. Thank you, i enjoyed the post.

  • I am here in Rwanda and want to start a fish project. How do I get duckweed started? will it start on it's own? Feed it the big issue here, there is no commercial feed that is available here that I am aware of so if I could grow my own feed that would be perfect. Thanks for doing these videos, very helpful.

  • salt and lime with some hot salsa. ahh.

  • Wicked setup!

  • Great videos. Just a question. Dont you need the fish waste for the all important nitrites, nitrates?
