  • Do you fold this wet and let it dry before you dye it? Would that ensure crisper lines?

Your instruction for this is the only one I've been able to catch on to. Thanks alot.

  • @Gwenigoo I dye the peace sign dry normally. I don't know how long it would take to dry the inside areas of the fold if you tie it up wet. I don't have that kind of patience. :( It may affect the outcome, one way to find out...

  • Separate the back of the shirt from the front. Doing both sides of the shirt gets thick, and doesn't lead to the most even distribution of the dye.

If you don't want to mess with with sleeves just cut them off.

  • i love how everyone has made really complicated videos of the same thing which dont even look that nice, whereas this is by far the most simple i have seen and the best looking also!

  • Oh good lordy that makes perfect sense. the other instructions I've seen were little train wrecks and didn't even come out nice. Can't wait to try this.

    THANKS!!!!!

  • @KingsDominionGeek I tied my dry shirt and put it in the soda ash afterward when I was ready to color.

  • @PortalForTheWin Watch 1:40 to 1:45ish for placement of color after folding. The little round bundle is the inside field of the symbol. See where he places his hands at 1:43. Might want a rubber band where each hand is, one to hold the folded point against the body, and one right below it. Put the peace sign color between those 2 bands. The rest is the main color of shirt/whatever.

  • YEP, YEP, YEP!!!! I finally got to try this last night. Gave myself as much room as possible, working on the front layer only of a man's XL shirt. I DID IT!! I can see room for improvement, but by golly, even this amateur can do it!!!

    THANKS AGAIN!!!

  • this has got to be he ugiest peace sign i have EVER seen

  • Awesome! You make it so simple. Won't it be great if peace could be that simple as well!! Thank you

  • where do you add the dye on the finished folded fabric, though??

  • this would be a lot better if you showed how you made the first peace sign

  • @KingsDominionGeek - It turned into like a blob of yuckness haha. Im going to try it again because i sorta did it in a rush!

  • "The Soda Ash pre-soak raises the pH level of the garment or fabric to approximately 10.5. Raising the pH level of the solution that the fabric or garment is soaked in raises the level of negative hydrogen ions in the dyeing environment. The chemical bonding process uses these ions in the reaction. Pre-soaking in Soda Ash fixer solution is what allows the fiber reactive dyes to work at room temperature." Dharma Co.

  • I found the TRICK! When I tried this the first time the shirt was still damp - this time I let the soda ashed shirt sit outside a few days and dry. Worked like a charm! The dye did not run all over like it did the first time and I got a PERFECT peace sign! Thank you hobblephosk!!!
