@DirtyRam50 Detroit 12v71TT... 2000hp+ easily and can run it for years without a rebuild at that level ;)
-
@jdog942 I would LOVE to see that. Maybe you are talking about a built lower end as well as a stroker kit and new cam as well as a supercharger or a twin turbo setup. BUT, when you go that far you cannot use 87 octane gasoline anymore. If you do you risk damage from detonation.
-
@DirtyRam50 Just one more thing. The're turbo system for muscle cars that you can install on a 454 that'll produce 1200 to 1400 hp on pump gas.
-
@DirtyRam50 Actually It's alcohol the trucks are running on. Alcohol is much cheaper than Nitro methane of course. And besides, diesel is boring...the only exciting part is when the beast rolls coal. Hearing an american V8 is a site to behold, and hear. I've seen Hushpower perform, and I admit it's pretty neat, but all hushpower did what get some air and roll over some cars. Where the insane donuts? the insame air? Besides, gas motors are easier to work on. I'm not trying to start a fight.

@brolyavocados439 If you were paying attention... I have a diesel truck. It's sitting at home right now because diesel fuel is 40 cents a gallon more than gas. Your fuel is injected into your cylinder from one point so that arguement doesn't make much sense. Diesel performance had 30 years to improve in the sport of tractor pulling. They are switching to spark plugs and methanol because it makes more power.
-
@Onco400 I'd rather my fuel ignite from all over the cylinder (compression ignition) rather than one point (spark ignition). I don't know what you have agenst diesel but you should give it a chance. Considering 70% of the vehicles on earth are diesel.
-
@Onco400 Well considering diesels are up to 6 seconds on the strip and the diesel performance market has only been a decent size for about 10 years. Gas engines have had since the early 50's to improve.
-
@DirtyRam50 There are 9 second diesel trucks smoking SLOW mustangs etc. They're also smoking everybody sitting in the stands lolol. But a real built mustang is going to kill a diesel.... sorry.
-
@Onco400 Have you seen a diesel drag race? There are 9 second pickups smoking mustangs, camaros and vipers. And those are the street legal trucks. And most diesel dragracers use turbos. I think that you are thinking of massive turbos, which do take a long time to spool up. However, almost all competitive diesel dragracers use compound turbos, where a small turbo spools up the big turbo. Thus lag is significantly reduced. Throw in a supercharger and you have a diesel with instant response.
-
@DirtyRam50 The diesel engine's powerband is incompatible with most forms of racing. The Banks dragster is the only diesel i've seen that doesn't act sluggish. Dyno numbers mean nothing if it takes 14 seconds to spool your turbo and then you have to run it wide open or risk falling back off the boost.
we need more diesel tube framed monster trucks!

nitro huh? is that what your gas engines need to burn to get over 1000 horsepower? costs you $50 a gallon? with little modification a diesel can push well over 1000hp and still run on diesel bought at the gas station on the corner. you will be seeing more diesel monster trucks in the future as gasoline finds itself pushed out in the cold. plus diesels put out incredible amounts of black smoke! always a crowd pleaser.
