Neurosurgeon Joe Bernard, MD, of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates was the first in North Carolina and one of the first surgeons in the country to implant recently FDA-approved Pipeline Embolization Device (PED). The PED is the first device of its kind, using flow-diverting technology to treat unruptured large and giant aneurysms from the blood vessel. This prevents the aneurysm from rupturing and causing significant disability or death. It's estimated that every year 30,000 people in the United States experience a ruptured brain aneurysm.
