  • @TTTEFanNo22 no a A0 prototype engine

  • @cprich22

Yes he is. In a book called Island of Sodor: It's People, History and Places it says that Gordon was based on the A1 pacific designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. Also another good book to read is the Autobiography of The Reverand Awdry. Both books you will probably have to look for on ebay as both are out of print.

  • @TTTEFanNo22 isnt gordon a A1 pasific like flying scotsman?

  • @cprich22

Unfortunately the locos that Thomas is based on were all scrapped by 1961. So if you are going off the TV shape then the 0-6-0T Jinty is a close resemblence.

But any engine will have more detail to them than the TV characters and look slightly different. Henry is based on a Black 5 but the TV shape isn't anything close to looking like a Black 5.

Does it matter to many children? Probably not. It is all about the excitement, fun and imagination.
