Watch 6 1/2-minute clip of the the television documentary "The Sixth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition" shows a back-stage look at the performers and competition(1981). Featuring Christopher O'Riley, Panayis Lyras, Zue Da Ming and Andre-Michel Schub this documentary examines the day-to-day experiences of young pianists taking part in one of the world's most prestigious music festivals. This video, originally aired on PBS and co-produced by KERA and Fort Worth Productions, also features the Tokyo String Quartet.
I was at the van Cliburn in 1981 and saw Lyras play the Prokofiev 2nd Concerto - unbelievable. Still sticks in my mind to this day - 30 years later.

We would love to see some more videos of VAN CLIBURN. Especially the 1958 competition in Moscow. I know we watch the 1962 almost every day, but we only have the CD of 1958. Is there a video from '58? WE would love to see ANY liver performance of Van Cliburn, really! We do appreciate any contribution of video from The Foundation. Thank You. Can't wait to see Fort Worth and the competition, this year.

To Van Cliburn Foundation: do you happen to have the documentary from 1973, when Vladimir Viardo won the competition? I am very curious to see that! Before Youtube, I only saw back to 1989, with Sultanov, live on TV!!
