Ingrid Johnson, Chair of the Newark Reentry Advisory Board and Scott Earl, Office Manager of the City of Newark's Office of Reentry discuss the successes of the Booker Administration's Prisoner Reentry Initiative.

Newark's Prisoner Reentry Initiative seeks to serve over 1,340 people over 2 years with job readiness training, mentoring, case management and employment placement.

In the US, nearly 2/3 of prisoners released annually will be re-incarcerated within 3 years. The City of Newark's Office of Reentry has achieved an incredible recidivism rate of less than 10%. In addition, out of the 60% of ex-offenders who receive jobs through the program, 75% of them keep of keep them for 6 months of more

  • Did Roberto Ortiz go through this program? Because it didn't help Silvia Paucar when she was killed by him this week!

  • This is great, but what about those who have records that are over 15 years old and companies weed them out from the beginning by asking if you've ever been arrested or convicted?

  • Excellent!

  • Programs like this are good, but if you don't someone to even become a criminal they should be fearful of the act. Meaning they must be concerned that this life style could get them killed by other gangs & most importantly THE LAW ABIDING CITIZEN!

  • Keep up the wonderful work. But I think it woud be good idea to make a recommendation that prisons stop medicating its population. They have a very steep hill to climb after they come out if they haven't gotten off the drugs while in prison.

  • Don't want criminals to commit more crimes? Offer them a better alternative. Won't prevent all recidivism, but it will help a lot of it. Makes perfect sense to me. (shrug)

  • I am an ex offender that started my own business over 6 years ago, I am also an author, motivational speaker and life coach. Please google my name in to understand where I came from. I was abused by my biological father who took me on a horrible life. In reference to Domestic violence month, I have went from victim to Victorious! Debra A Brown-Davis
