You're spot on, the proposed curriculum lacks hours for all artforms, plain and simple.
Since your blog, Acara released the shape paper...
"The Shape of the Curriculum:The Arts" is a poorly written document. It doesn't attempt to organise content, doen't have any outcomes & is soo process focused that teachers will be pulling their hair out trying to assess student development.
I would dearly like to know how they are going to work in more hours of "The Arts" into an already pretty heavily stocked circulum... Either they will have to make the arts on more of a level (hours wise) with maths, science and english or extra ciriculum activities will no longer be optional and be compulsary... Meaning even those that have NO interest in "The arts" will have to do it... Takes the whole aspect of "elective subjects" out of the equation... so much for choice...
I can give a few on an average high school cause my schooling was private/public. My private school was catholic and the only "Arts" we could do was if we took up extra ciriculum activities up to year 6...
Art was only compulsary in year 7 after that it was replaced by Design and Technology (woodwork, electronics, cooking, sewing, metal work, computer studies) And then in years 9-12 any of the above was by electives only...
Okay, when I was in year 8 and 9 in high school, I was doing about 7 hours a week worth of arts subjects. I only did Music and Drama.
