  • In tip 55 he seems to repeat the point over and over using different words. He keeps saying the same thing but using different language in tip 55. I realised that Marty reiterates the same point throughout tip 55 but with different phrasings. Friedman tends to state tip number fifty-five several times but in various ways. The second tip of this video (55) seems to be repeated by the person saying it (Marty).

  • Liked the awkward silence he gave after "wankin' off..."

  • @MapleLeafAce Vai was 29 when he played with Whitesnake. At 18 he was a student at Berklee.

  • wanking off reminds me of yngwie malmsteen he cant stop wanking ha ha ha

  • WTF, same voice as dave mustaine o.O

  • My god, I swear he heard me say this same thing and then use it here!!! He is the man, I wish we could meet and chill over some good Japanese beer and discuss music.

  • what if what i want to hear is really really difficult? I'mnot gonna practice easy stuff cause thats not what i want to do.

Also, the reason Steve Vai practiced 5 hours a day is because by the time he was 18 he was already a professional stage performer with Whitesnake. It was his job to be good tt guitar; he didnt have to do anything else.

  • @MylesLouis Personally I think 6 hours is the limit. My average practice time is around 2 hours per day, and usually once a week doubling that. Occasionally it's good to practice a really long time, but it's better to work on things that both you want to work on (or hear) and things that will broaden your playing. Doing the Steve Vai thing is just overkill.

  • So true about listening and learning songs or tech within your capabilites. The first 2 or 3 yrs of learning the guitar i was constantly on a downer. All i listened and liked to listen to was stuff like Megadeth, Dream Theatre etc pieces that was so far beyond my skill level. Great advice Marty, i was i had seen this vid 20 yrs ago lol :)

  • let me rephrase 1:05 - 1:15 "concentrate on the music that you like, if it's Megadeth of course youre going to have to learn simpler things along the way"

  • what if i listen to megadeth?
