But the mass of the moon would remain much the same, minus any debris carried out of lunar gravity by the force of the explosions, if any. So whether it were molten or solid, the moon's stabilizing effect would remain the same.

the moon also has a stabilizing effect on the earths rotation. it wobbles but the moon dampens that. without it the earth would wobble more. with at times having the poles in the plane of the ecliptic.. bad for life on earth.
