Master Instructor Oyster at the Academy of the Cueing Arts http://www.billiardinstruction.com provides us with an in depth look into the effects of cue shaft deflection causing cue ball squirt. Performed using 1 tip of left spin using a consistent 2 speed. Five different cues were used with varies amounts of performance. Predator 314, Z shaft (second generations), Meucci Red Dot, Cuetec R360, and Dufferin cue were used in this examination.

  • have a ?, is the z shaft designed for more advanced players that use side english more? i noticed it's also has a smaller diameter tip @ 11.75mm vs 12.75mm for the 314-2 shaft. any thoughts? i am deciding on my first predator cue but can't decide which shaft is good for a beginner to intermediate player. thx

  • @jayzbond007 Yes you are correct, the Z2 shaft is more precise than the 314 shaft by .45 at 6 diamonds with 2 speed. The greater the distance between the cue ball and the target the larger the margin of error, as the squirt runs on a diagonal to the center line. Beginner to Intermediate players should start off using the 314 2 and focus on skill development. Specifically the 3 fundamentals and mechanics of the stroke. Do not use any spin until you have progressed through these stages well.

  • @BilliardInstruction Seemed like you hit the ball softer with the z2 shaft with the tip outside the line. The tip is always finishing in a different spot. I use Predator z2 shaft as well, I don't see as much of a difference as I see in your videos.

  • @LadyGagawithbellson

Actually the Z2 was 1/2 diamond of more distance which means just a bit firmer stroke. One of the questions I asked on each shot was...How did it feel? In my notes I wrote down a 5 on the 1-5 scale. The tip was struck just slightly outside the 1 tip. Adding these adjustments in the 2 variables means the Z2 is better than the graph reference. Good eyes mate!

  • i don't think this is a valid test because there's no way the guy hits the same spot of the ball every single time, unless you have a fixed aparatus holding the stick hitting the ball, there's too much room for error, every mm counts where you hit the ball. just my 2 cents.

  • @blownlx50 Each shot was performed 5 separate times with each shaft. A complete examination of each was done in super slow motion video and freeze frames using the V1 Pro software to determine the most accurate of each tip contact. A precise center line was drawn on the table end to end along with a very exact 1 tip parallel line to the left. The speed accuracy was determined by measuring the timing between the tip contact and the rail contact measured in thousands of second. The elbow is fixed.

  • I am not surprised by the results but the Meucci Black dot was not tested and that is actually the replacement for the red dot also the test should have the Lucasi hybrid & the TigerX ...So when will we see the next test?

  • @BilliardInstruction

awesome, thanks for the advice. btw, great videos!

  • Nice, well done video. After years of playing pool, I just started playing with a Predator about 6 or 7 months ago.... and I must say I have an improved aim!

  • I am teaching my friend about pool and not all of us are good teachers. This video is an excellent demonstration of deflection and squirt. Since you are an instructor I am not telling you anything you do not know here, but for those of you out there that are still learning, you can also control the deflection to a certain extent with how long your bridge is and whether or not you use an open or closed bridge. Great vid though. Wish I had some1 like u to explain this when I was learning.
