  • I just removed some wallper on the bathroom wall that's been there over 10 yrs for sure! Well as I was removing it I noticed in some places the top layer of the drywall was coming off! Now it looks like cardbord in spots. Someone told me all I need to do is prime it and paint it will be fine. Is that the best to way to go? Thanks for any help.

  • @mandy1927 You need to go to my AsktheBuilder website, the dot com one, *anytime* you have a question. Why? First, because the answers are there. Second, because then you can sign up for my FREE weekly newsletter that constantly has tips and answers just like you're looking for. Type: wallpaper on drywall into my search engine and read that column.

  • Tim, have you ever tried using a diluted first coat as a sealer? Those sealer paints you used in this video are fairly expensive here in the UK, and someone suggested to me a diluted first coat as an alternative. Thanks.

  • @pedroinlondonvideos I've not and I never would. Go back and watch the video once more. You missed two major components in the paint that make it a primer. Some finish paints now advertise they are a primer and a finish paint, but I'm skeptical that they have as much of the needed primer and sealer ingredients in them.

  • Tim, If I want to leave the wall white is it ok to just use the primer, and not paint the walls?

Or will the walls fade, or be more prone to scratches? Will there be any problem with that?

    thanks

  • @ScenicHD Primers are not as durable as finish paints. You'll not be able to wash the walls as easily with a washable finish paint.

  • Awwww Man. I am sure glad I watched this 2 min. video. You probably saved me a bundle!!! I was going to paint without priming. THANK YOU!!!

  • @AsktheBuilder Thanks Tim. Will watch it again.

  • Great information! Too bad there are so many know-it-alls on here that need to put their two cents in. I'll be going through this over the weekend and was going to try one of those paint/primer combos, but after seeing this and googling several articles, I've definitely changed my mind and am going to get a good primer. Nice tip on tinting the primer. I'll make sure I bring that up when talking to the paint guy.

  • here in the uk it is usual to skim coat with plaster before decorating.

  • what if your planning on texturing the wall? do you primer them texture or texture then primer or can you get by with out any primer?
