The use of synthetic drugs is worsening in south-east Asian countries, according to a UN report.

In Thailand, police made more than 84,000 methamphetamine- related arrests in 2007, the highest in five years.

Al Jazeera's Selina Downes reports on how drug gangs are using juveniles who can escape serving adult sentences.

  • legalizing "recreational drugs" is a bad idea. The drugs take over the mind, and cause the thoughts to re-aquire. At the same time, they take away the desire to learn and be productive and to take part in self-governance. using drugs is in fact an exact metaphor for lack of self-governance. When the citizenry exhibits gross stupidity, like using drugs, then the government has no choice except to treat them like stupid children, for their own good and that of the sane and productive citizens.

  • Thailand has one of the highest murder rates in the world, way higher than U.S.A. A lot of people think that asians only do maths, come to south east asia and then think again.

  • ha ha ha the biggest drug dealer is the police be itself in Thailand ! an open secret - everybody knows , but nobody can change it !

  • although Thailand empolys a strict code for drugs its evident that prohiition just doesnt work. When will the governments of the world take note that this is one war that we cant win.Regualte, tax, and control distribution.easy

  • @cocomomopup yup, i once got attacked my a taxi driver who was on Yaba. he slapped me, so my bf punched him. then he went to jail! yay!

  • The boys like him made a good choice to go to drug business. These boys are very poor. The Thai people only pretend they love their people, and have the law or rules about drugs. But in reality the Police are the drug lords in Thailand. They are the Good, the Bad, and also the Ugly. The police controls everything in Thailand.

I've been in Thailand. The tourist guides and the police are those who control drug business. The police never inspect a tour busses,

  • please will anyone help me to help my son. please please

  • loosers

  • a very sensitive government in thailand. they will never get anything under control because people find it hard to determine who's the criminals and who's the police. further thailand lacks a reasonable information policy, holding everything "tabu" which could damage their pretty touristism image. typical asian hypocrisy.
