"Crazy Fingers"
Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia
Copyright Ice Nine Publishing

Your rain falls like crazy fingers
Peals of fragile thunder keeping time
Recall the days that still are to come
Some sing blue

Hang your heart on laughing willow
Stray down to the water
Deep Sea of Love

Beneath the sweet calm face of the sea
Swift undertow

Life may be sweeter for this, I don't know
See how it feels in the end
May Lady Lullaby sing plainly for you
Soft, strong, sweet and true

Cloud hands reaching from a rainbow
Tapping at the window touch your hair
So swift and bright
Strange figures of light
Float in air

Who can stop what must arrive now?
Something new is waiting to be born

Dark as the night
You're still by my side
Shining side

Gone are the days we stopped to decide
Where we should go
We just ride

Gone are the broken eyes we saw through in dreams
Gone - both dream and lie

Life may be sweeter for this I don't know
Feels like it might be alright
While Lady Lullaby sings plainly for you
Love still rings true

Midnight on a carousel ride
Reaching for the gold ring down inside
Never could reach
It just slips away but I try

  • dont no how i always passed this one up in your collection chase, i think jerry's spirit convicted me, everything about this is well as Weir would say "just exactly perfect". so beautiful how jerry's solo and the video marries so well

  • @wingman572 - thanks man. Yeah, i love this performance. That whole night was gorgeous, if you haven't listened to it. I think i put a link to the show below the video.

  • Wow, Thank you for posting this ! I was at this show man, I was 19 years old, had a great time and great seat but didn't sit down the whole show, lol. Never had such a good time, like to have it one more time, might as well. Great memories, great people, Donna Godchaux, remember this show like it was last night. Sweet playing by the band, what a year, the Grateful Dead movie also came out that year, damn those were good days.

  • @MrBull419 - that's so cool. Those 76 Beacon Theatre shows sound so clear and beautiful, what a gift it must have been to actually be there.

  • Thank-you NICE

  • wow, I started seeing shows in 77 and was a pretty serious dead head until Jerry's coma so I know a little about what was going on back then. Your video with the pics are awesome. Totally nailed a feeling that was all around at the time. big thanks

  • @DannySnuttz /try you tube vid/"turn on your love light" from 5/7/72 "bickershaw fest.england/jerry rocks this one!enjoy

  • Happy birthday Jerry.

  • definitely captured the spirit in a beautiful way, but also glorified the heroin that destroyed it with the poppy image associated with "life may be sweeter, for this I don't know." I'd like to be hearing Jerry sing this live. I'm not saying demonize the poppy or that natural products are necessarily all that bad, but how about a warning to the kids? Thank you though, this is really nice and I like it a lot, much love for posting.

  • This is my favorite Crazy Fingers, and one of my favorite second sets from the 70's.
