Yeah, it would make more sense to put the sugar in capsules and swallow those instead, if you want to avoid tasting it. It's also not a good idea to take sugar if your metabolism is out of whack (which it probably is if you're very much overweight). I think the basic theory that taste has physiological effects on your metabolism is interesting and may have merit.

@J:Your skepticism makes you the perfect subject: 1/Weigh yourself. 2/Drink 4 tbsp (480 calories) of flaxseed oil, while holding your nose, as your -only- breakfast. (This is the updated choice for its additional health benefits). 3/Do it for a few days, paying -absolutely no attention- to how much you eat. 4/Weigh yourself again on the fourth day.

i'm up for trying it, but I don't understand the claim that sugar-water has no flavor.

I'm not obese just a bit overweight and have tried the oil for the last week and I've cut down on junk food by 50%. I'm not very hungry anymore and when I do eat the food is good and healthy.
