I decided to give these little buggers a try while we are out here fishing for them and see what the big fuss is all about. Don't count on finding much of this in the U.S though. Most of it goes to the Japanese where they devour this stuff

  • suppose to be soaked in salt water and it gets hard ..then you peel off the sac .. then it gets soaked in soy sauce , sake, kirin, and fish stock for a few days before it gets served..I dont think they eat it fresh like that ..lol..but i guess you can try.. i recently caught some herring and followed this method of curing the roe and they taste great.. but never tasted them fresh and slimy like that..

  • @strtslpr haha nice. well next time I feel like cooking up some herring eggs, I now know how to do it. they were a bit bland and slimy. thanks for the tip :)

  • I am first nations native and I love to eat it raw on kelp or on the branches it spawns on....... I have never had it like how you are eating it raw there......We imerse it in hot water till it turns white and eat it with butter, soy sauce or some people eat it with oolichan oil.....salt pepper or garlic.......what ever the person prefers I guess..... If having the eggs from the herring, fry it up.......

  • Gross. Ship it to Japan lol
