Yeah, they kept Mata Nui, but he is kind of a new character since he has only been mentioned and hasn't been seen until the end of the first season (2001-2008) and now he will be an actual character.

What I like is that they aren't completely starting over, because they are keeping ties from the old bionicle to the new one.
