It has been outside in the mercy of the elements for decades. Now i want to fix it up. Any suggestions how to mend it without ruining it?

  • The problem was tht it was so rusty on the inside where springs are so it had too much friction from the sinde-plates that it didn't move. Some sandpaper and oil made it better.

  • Thanks. The spring was actyally there, I cleared away rust and put plenty of oil. Now it works :)

  • ya i agree with them to...just put in a new spring

  • I agree, looks like a new spring would fix it right up. That and a good clean...

  • Looks like you are just missing the leaf spring in between the 2 halves. That will keep it opening evenly and give pressure to stop the pieces from wobbling.
