Maybe he found out that there more important things in life? An ideology based on hate and prejudice will only be able to flourish if certain prerequisites are met. Unless the person in question has such grave emotional scars that he's damaged for life, getting away from all negative influences and living life on his own terms, should eventually make him appreciate and distinguish things on another level. And it's not a matter of being truthful to one's ideals, but to be open to knowledge.
