Lyrics:

I felt your grip begin to fade
You kept me tied, blind and afraid
But then I broke you and saw
The look on your face said it all

So could you feel the way I felt
Did you kneel the way I knelt
Did you stand up and yell
Pleading for someone to help

Or listen to reason
Open your eyes
It's a wonder what you'll find with an open mind
You may be surprised
Yeah

Gotta get away from this illusion
For the sake of the world, this delusion
It's gotta, gotta, gotta go-ooh
Yeah-ooh

If the dark is just a thought
Then the light is in your mind
The lies we tell ourselves
Will ruin the world with time

Did you feel the way I felt
Did you kneel the way I knelt
Or did you look up and stare
Waiting for your acts of prayer

Won't you listen to reason.
Will you open your eyes
It's a wonder what you'll find with an open mind
You might be surprised
Yeah

Gotta get away from this illusion
For the sake of the world, this delusion
It's gotta, gotta, gotta go-ooh
Yeah-ooh

Gotta get away from this illusion
For the sake of the world, this delusion
It's gotta, gotta, gotta go-ooh

When is it enough
When will we all wake up
So look around
And see what's right before your eyes
No control beyond these skies

Gotta get away from this illusion
For the sake of the world, this delusion
It's gotta, gotta, gotta go-ooh
Yeah-ooh

Gotta get away from this illusion
For the sake of the world, this delusion
It's gotta, gotta, gotta go-ooh

Basically the illusions, and delusions that the song is talking about is the religions of the world, that have ruined the world. An example, I use to be a Christian, and I was very devoted to my faith, which in turn poisoned me and took away my ability to reason. As a result, I would ignore science, if it contradicted my faith. This religion poisoned my mind, I was deluded, trapped in an evil illusion. At some point I broke free of Christianity, and am now an atheist. I realize that there

Always painful, I know. I have lost friends because of my atheism. People I had been close to for a significant portion of my life. Religion divides, that is all it can do. I hope that you and your friend can continue to associate with one another. That your friendship truly does mean more to him than his religion. True friendship can survive just about anything. I hope you have that kind of a friend and that both of you succeed.

Everything that comprises consciousness is affected by the brain. Brain tumors warp our consciousness. Splitting the corpus callosum results in two different types of consciousness. Destroying parts of the brain destroys that person's ability to engage in those types of consciousness. If you destroy the entire brain, there is no consciousness at all. There is no evidence to the contrary, and the brain-mind explanation is the most complete and powerful explanation of consciousness we have.

It could be any illusion or delusion religious or not. It is obvious that religion falls into both those categories but religion does not equate to all illusion and delusion. Forgive me if I seem to belittle your conversion as that is not my intention. I find myself continually in contention of my own beliefs but I found that reason, science, and free thought are reliable sources to fall back on. It seems, the more I study those; the more my old beliefs seem adolescent. Religion was one of them.
