Over the 2009 Holiday Season VIA's Chaleur (Montreal-Gaspé train) and Ocean (Montreal - Halifax) ran separately from Montreal (they are usually combined as far as Matapedia). The trains were numbered 616 and 614 respectively. 616 left Montreal ahead of 614 and so as we passed Matapedia on the Ocean at sunrise on 24 December 2009 we were able to view train 616 and then the Restigouche River from the dome of Revelstoke Park.

  • Very amazing.

The 6402 and 6417 was on the other train..

  • Yes they used two locomotives on nine cars so that the train would get to Gaspé in time for the return trip.

Of course because the Ocean and the Chaleur returned as separate trains all the way to Montreal a late Chaleur did not necessarily delay the Ocean.
