That is part of the irony of pants roles of this time. A beautiful woman dressed as a man...singing about things a "lady" would never actually get to sing. The more effeminate, the less threatening the character is.

Why is it that all of us mezzos (I'm a lyric mezzo) get trouser roles? I've already done 3..it's like UGH after while...I'd like for the audience to see me as girl once in a while too! lol

She is a wonderful singer. She recorded a terrific version of "Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor" with Hannah Schwartz (if I remember rightly).

And two years later, she would play Susanna (I have the recording)! She is delightful here, with perhaps the only drawback being that her face is too pretty for her to be a boy.

Yes I concurr also have the Figaro where she sings Susanna..beautifully sung as she is in most of her recordings. Definitely a fan!
