This is from an computer graphics assignment at my former university, to write a simple flight-sim in opengl.

No, we used only simple rotations along the Y-Axis.
But I guess you could use also quaternions, if you really wanted to.

Out of curiosity, was it mandatory (were you required) to make use of Quaterion's?

Hello, there are plenty of IDEs for linux.
I wrote this app with kdevelop but usually I use eclipse or vim/gedit/kwrite.
Whatever you feel good with should be fine :)

Do you use an IDE? I dual boot ubuntu 7.10 and vista, but would prefer to do my openGL work with ubuntu. Any suggestions?
