We used fertilziers or herbicides when we moved to our current home 11 years ago. It was a natural evolution to do away with most of the grass and develop a wildflower garden. It is now self-sustaining and various domesticated perennials are also a part of the garden. We have entered our property in the Communities in Bloom competition in Barrie which will be assessed over the next few weeks. The variety of blooms changes weekly, daily, and even hourly. A rabbit took up residence last year, and still visits once in a while as well as many other animals and insects. It is nice to have nature at our front door and the maintenance of the garden is minimal. Cutting the little bit of grass we do still have takes 5-10 minutes. We do our weeding by hand.
