  • @HairlessRodentQueen I've been told that labs are susceptible to hip and eye problems. Is there anything in particular that these rat-dog (lol) active type dogs are susceptible to? What's a good resource to learn more?

  • @a1mint There's no guarantee with any dog that theyll age "gracefully" but if you feed them the right stuff, exercise them daily, and dont let them get fat. Any dog can age well. (my 13yr old gsd/pitt mix was arthritis free and acted like a 3 year old up till the day she died) I think you need to look into researching the breed and getting pros and cons before adopting anything. And even then, there's still a chance your dog might have unforseen health problems. That's just part of life.

  • @HairlessRodentQueen What are the signs that a dog is getting really old - provided there are no cancers, which dogs apparently often suffer from later in life. Do these dogs age gracefully and are they functional right up to the end, is what I'm after.

I know some dogs tend to get sick and then you have to deal with problems for a long time.

But perhaps these dogs keep on ticking right up to the end.

What are things like near its end of life? What symptoms / problems, is it different?

  • @a1mint Well, they're generally in there with most small breeds, so somewhere around 12-18 years. Obviously stuff happens and that has nothing to do with age, but a healthy, fit, rat terrier can live quite a long time :)

  • @HairlessRodentQueen Which is how long, realistically. Again, not simply quoted from breeders' claims?

  • @a1mint They're basically bald rat terriers, so you can expect the same life expectancy of a rat terrier :)

  • I have 2 Dogs wich are this same Bread ANd they are so cute and I LOVE THEM

  • They arent hairless they dont kike that term they like to be called smooth
