  • I'm gonna presume you're on the Staten Island ferry . . .very nice indeed.

Of course this tune refers to the Staten Island off the coast of South America. During sailing days if the island was spotted you could be sure you'd make it around cape horn. Or so they say.

Very nicely played, in any case. Thanks for posting it.

  • Yeah thats the Staten Island ferry, cant quite make out the Statue of Liberty at this resolution...

Thanks for the info about the tune, I did not know where it was from. Also thanks for the video of the Lost Hiker. Very pretty and haunting tune.

  • Love it!!! Raised on Staten Island and very into the history of it, I didn't even know we had a song. Great job!

  • Also with the Battle of Brooklyn the Marblehead fisherman under the command of John Glover saved Washington's troops and brought them to Staten Island. (Popular tune on the north shore of Boston because of it ) I have heard. ( I also heard there was a Staten Island off of Scotland . SO many great stories . Im shore they all are true !!! I did a version on clawhammer banjo if you want to have a listen . All the best , Guy

  • No one knows which Staten Island it refers to. Don't forget that Staten Island, NY was a major base for the British troops during the Revolution, so an equally valid theory is that the tune originated here during that time.

  • Nice one chaps. I learning this with my mate Paul (fiddle). I play banjo. We're based in London, UK

  • Very, very cool! I have been playing this tune lately. I like the way you guys played it....and where....

  • WOW!!!! ive been practicing that song for so long but i still cant play that well!
