Only 52 years ago, fifteen-year old Beals faced down furious segregationists, the Arkansas National Guard and the Governor of Arkansas to integrate Little Rock Central High School. Now, a best-selling author, university professor and Congressional Gold Medal of Honor recipient, Melba Pattillo Beals joined ALSC on July to discuss her fight for civil rights in the United States.(www.ala.org)

  • I just finished reading Melba's memoir Warriors Don't Cry... a powerful and moving account of her time at Central High. Melba, if you happen to ever read this, God bless you and the other eight of the LR9, you are a hero and an inspiration.
