I love Sufjan. I listen to his stuff on long drives because you can really listen to the music and lyrics and it's relaxing as can be.

This song is just incredible live. The 1st time I saw it performed was on this same night in November & the 2nd time was at the tibet house concert. I know that this is kind of off topic but does anyone know of that other video(which was removed)?
and also thanks for the great vid!

nice one, ive been trying to figure this out for ages, thanks!
-
does anyone have the piano chords for this...PLEASE
-
He did announce it on his 2006 tour...
-
I think he says "the loneliest child in the house, the loneliest chime in the house"
-
it's "cut my hands somehow"
-
"How could you run from me now, the loneliest child in the house, the loneliest child in the house" (it almost sounds as if he's saying "bleeding and breaking God's will" in the next verse, but I could be wrong); "You touched me inside of my cage, come to me feathered and free, for I am the ugliest prey"; "You said you'd wait for me down by the tannery (?) creek...wrapped in a blanket of red, the owl and the tanager sat, the owl and the tanager sat..."
-
Holeymoleynicoly, you did a good job transcribing those lyrics, considering they're pretty difficult to hear. The only things I'd change are:
"found out you cheated me, I ran behind the barn and cut my hands and mouth" (or handsome mouth?); "How I was wrong, dangling from the kiln, you tickled me until..."
This was the most haunting, achingly beautiful piece of music I've ever heard live. It was a privilege to be there that night.

These chords sound like they work pretty well:
Ebminor (root note Bb) / Ab (root note C) / Bbminor (root note F) / Ab (root note Ab)
