On Thursday morning August 13, 2009 - a crime scene perimeter was established just south of the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue at the Federal building in the Westwood District of Los Angeles, California. The suspect, a troubled man who went off his medication and made bomb threats against the White House, led the authorities on a chase from Westchester to the parking lot exit of the Federal building just south of Veteran Avenue and Ashton Avenue. The suspect remained inside his red VW and refused to come out and be arrested. SWAT teams, special vehicles, a bomb smelling dog, and a robot arrived to facilitate the situation. Several hours passed with no response from the suspect. The LAPD put four rounds of tear gas into the car, but the suspect stayed inside. Eventually, as dusk arrived, the LAPD tasered the suspect and dragged him from his car. He was arrested and taken to UCLA Medical Center for treatment. Peace was restored. Everyone else went home.
