thank you so much for this, im starting to make videos now.
and i need ALOT of help. thanks for the tips

sometimes it helps if u diffuse the ceiling lights with diffusion paper (parchment paper) and using reflectors (pro or DIY) and bounce the light onto the subject
-
yup if its for the backround only, the subject will have his own backlight.
-
what if you're filming in a room with lights on the ceiling. Do you switch them off and use the three-point light?
heh it sounds like a stupid question

@snakesintheroad Hey Nick, this was shot a few years ago. I think we were using one of our 500W JTL halogen lights. Softbox to the right, softbox to the left, and a a bare bulb with barn doors for the backlight.

is there any advantages in using a halogen instead of a tungsten.. i am shooting with super 8 film if that comes into play at all.
thanks

@snakesintheroad None I can think of :) A light source can be anything. I think we've gotten just as much use out of portable $15 LED lights from Target as we have our $500 softboxes.
It all just depends on what look you're going for. Roger Deakins uses China Balls, Robert Elswit uses more traditional lights.

Backlighting is to light everything except the subject? Huh?

I think Peter meant "background" lighting :)
