Alexander was originally known as Baby Dumpling, but the strip was never called Dagwood-- I don't think Dagwood was even in the strip when it first started, and the strip began 5 years before Porky made his first appearance and by the time this toon was made there was already a Blondie radio show and the film series has started

The camels Blondie and Baby Dumpling are references to the characters from the Blondie radio show.

Blondie and Baby Dumpling are references to the early strips of the Blondie comic (which was called Dagwood at the time).
