DigInfo: http://movie.diginfo.tv - In industrial fields there are many ways to measure the dimensions of 3D objects, Konica Minolta Sensing have released a non-contact 3D digitizer for this purpose. The Vivid 9i digitizer consists of a laser scanner and a camera, using triangulation to determine the physical dimensions of the subject being scanned. The camera receives the light reflected and the surface shape measurements are converted into a 3D polygon mesh. Once a series of shots has been taken the mesh can be joined together and then manipulated or analyzed in a CAD application. The digitizer has micrometer accuracy, and can be used in a wide range of applications, from reverse engineering, design verification and accuracy inspection to inspecting the wear on parts and examining the human body.
