CLEARWATER Fla The Coast Guard called off the search Tuesday for two NFL players and a third man lost at sea off the Florida coast after their boat capsized during a fishing trip

Officials said the search would end at sundown, with Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper, free-agent defensive lineman Corey Smith, who played with the Detroit Lions last season, and former South Florida player William Bleakley still missing in the rough, chilly seas.

Were extremely confident that if there are any survivors on the surface of the water that we would have found them, said Coast Guard Capt. Timothy Close, who added that searchers scoured the equivalent of 24,000 square miles over more than 60 hours.

The details of this story are so fucking sad.  You would think that the NFL players would be so mentally strong, they would never give up.

agent may have a point i hope its wrong but it could be true the story he told the police is really strange that they decided to kill them selves and take off there life jackets and then the other white guy saw and light and happened to take his life jacket of to

I also read about two different stories but know they was in a tough situation and probably gave up hope. The water was cold, hungry, dehydrated could have made anyone give up or lose hope. I cant state that I would have given up because I never been in that situation(thank God).
