Montgomery College Health Science Boot Camp: A week-long workshop designed for the prospective Health Science student.

This is a pilot project that is being offered to Montgomery County Public School High School students who are considering one of the degreed Health Science programs offered at Montgomery College. This is a weeklong workshop that will expose students to courses and objectives that all Health Science programs require. Boot Camp workshop students will
• be supplied with a uniform scrub top and Health Science booklet with all course material included (power point slides, handouts)
• be awarded certification in CPR for health care providers free of charge. (Student must attend all classes and be present on Friday to receive certification. No exceptions)
• be taught vital signs
• be taught sterile technique
• be given strategies for test taking and time management,
• have the opportunity to research medical journals and present a small paper on this article
• review basic math concepts required for all health science programs
• be given an introduction to critical thinking, medical terminology, HIPAA and Health Care ethics
• be presented with a certificate of completion of the boot camp workshop and be presented with a gift bag of study aids

Admission requirements
Incoming MCPS High school incoming juniors and incoming seniors
Minimum GPA of 2.5 unweighted
Three letters of recommendation:
Two from instructors
One from a counselor
Deadline to submit application- May 1, 2010
Maximum number of students accepted for each workshop 15
