Ginger Rogers Part 3 (of 3) Tales of Manhattan

Tales of Manahattan (1942) is a movie composed of 5 unrelated short stories, each starring different actors. The only common ingredient is a tail coat which works its way through each story. This particular tale stars Ginger Rogers & Henry Fonda. In the prior one the owner of the coat is shot (through the coat) and hospitalized. It then is brought into this clip by the chauffeur of that victim. Keep in mind that a curse has been placed on the coat. Yet it seems to bring truth and/or good luck to at least someone in each story.

The best story is the one that stars Edward G. Robinson but this is the second best story. Ginger and Henry do a super job of playing off each other. Ginger said yes to the part because she wanted to do a movie with her friend, Henry Fonda. I love the part where they are imagining what they would write in the letter. Henry seduces Ginger with words and she reciprocates in kind, then they kiss and the realization that they are in love hits them. Be careful what favors you ask of your friends.

I agree that Edward G. Robinson's story was very well done, but I'm a sucker for romantic comedy, particularly something done this well. I thought Fonda and Ginger were superb. And, yes, the scene at the couch was lovely. Interestingly I just picked up a second copy of this film which includes a sixth story that they decided not to include in the theatrical release. It stars WC Fields, and I think it was wisely edited out.

lol thats crazy how fast they just decided that they were like in love....god she reads one letter and is like "oh my god im totally in love with this guy!!" i love ginger and henry!!!! i had no idea they were in a movie together...as soon as i found out i was like i NEED to see it!!!
