Jake's Twitching Video

This is my son Jake when he was 2 1/2 weeks old - My husband and I (and his pediatrician) thought he was having seizures :( Thankfully it turned out to be "Benign Neonate Sleep Myoclonic"....Bascially just severe sleep twitches! So if anyone has a baby out there that does this, don't worry! It could just be what my son had. He's 8 months now and doesn't do it anymore!

It's irresponsible to tell people not to worry. Just because your son has a harmless version does not mean that all babies who jerk like this are okay.

However, if you continue reading I wrote "It could be what my son had" And obviously I would hope most people out there have more common sense than to "worry" or "not worry" about their baby according to a strangers video of one child. In my opinion, that would be irresponsible.

First, I want to thank you, as I'm now a little bit reliefed.

I have a son (almost three weeks) with almost the exact movements/shakes of your son, I went to the doc who told me that it is mostly "sleep myoclonic", and it will go inshallah with time.

Just because I want to make sure, please allow me to ask few questions that I hope you can answer:

- This was happening only when he is sleeping, and disappears immediately when he wake-up, correct?

- How frequently was happened?

...then we had nothing to worry about. Everything I read about Benign Neonate Sleep Myclonic said it should disappear by 3 months. But the ped neuroligist said it will never fully disappear b/c EVERYONE twitches in their sleep...But the severity of it definitely lessened by about 4-5 months old. I found that it got less and less as time goes on, but every case could be different. Hope this helps!

This is exactly what my daughter who is 8 weeks does as well. My first who is 10 now did this as well. Thank you for posting this video as it reassured me that this is common and is what I thought it was. Thanks! And your baby is beautiful by the way!

My son Jackson had Benign myoclonus and his episodes looked exactly like your son's. He was in the ICU for two days as they were trying to figure out his diagnosis, He was loaded up on the antiseizure drugs ativan and phenobarb- made his symptoms horribly worse. He twitched without stopping for two days. It was terrifying, but such a relief to get this benign diagnosis. Jack outgrew his sleep myoclonus at age 3 mo. His video is also on youtube. Thanks for this video, my son is two weeks old and has the exact same spasms.They started when he was just 3 days old. I'm in the process of getting him checked and its very scary to think of the possible prognosis. This has put my mind at ease greatly as the symtoms are the same (only during sleep,stops when woken). Thanks a lot, it helped, you mentioned that you made all tests for jake, what was it? my doc asked me to do to him Brain CT scan just to make sure every thing is ok, but i'm afraid to do it to him.

So does jake have any twitches now?

I know that every body tiwitches in thier sleep, i know i does, but for a little boy it should not be so sever like this, thats why i'm worried.

Any way, sorry for the long comments, and thank you again for shring this, it is really helpfull.
