Southern Railway unrebuilt Battle of Britain light pacific 34067 Tangmere hauls RTC's The Somerset Explorer from London Paddington to Yeovil Junction via the Berks and Hants route, and return via the Southern route to Reading to Paddington.

At Milborne Port bank just north east of Sherborne, Tangmere makes a speed restriction to 5mph as it makes its way under a low bridge, which she struck once back in July 2007. The pacific can be heard slipping up just as she climbs the 1 in 80 gradient. but manages to pick up power as she slowly and gradually proceeds en route.

The power of a three cylinder pacific can be heard in all detail here. So sit back and enjoy the Tangmere's performance up the 1 in 80 gradient.
As she was running on February 14th Valentines Day, I unfortunatley didn't have a date on that day, but at least Tangmere's run brang something to smile about!

Earlier that day I filmed 60163 Tornado at Grateley but unfortunatley it didn't go as well as my shot got screwed up.
With Thanks to David Oldham and Ben Jervis who took me to Milborne Port bank.

  • It's steadily steep up the cutting, I spend a lot of time relaxing there with the camera, but this beats a 159 flattening the climb alright! Good, clean footage, did you hang about for the next unit!

  • Nah I was just up there getting the spam can.

  • brilliant quality and great vid 5*

  • Cheers man!

  • Superb! Almost wish I had gone there instead of to watch 'Tornado'

  • lol you couldnt go chasing two trains all at once, you just gotta choose which one to get. Although I did catch Tornado at Grateley but my shot got screwed up, which was a big disapointment, so my fellow grizer drove me to Milborne Port to get Tangmere, which proved better.

  • excellant video 5*

  • All you need is rain and speed and you've got a Turner painting. :)

Wonder what it's like standing on the bridge when the train passes underneath. Curious, even though someone might say a filthy mess.

  • Great vid, superb quality, love the plume of smoke staying right above the train after the bridge, there can't have been a breath of wind.

  • Excellent quality clip - very professional. Always good to see a Bulleid Pacific back on THE West of England main line!

  • Thanks good video 5+

  • What a large camber there is on this part of the line! That makes interesting viewing!
