I agree that it's mostly acceptable but a 'screw morality' position is ridiculous. The implications reach into notions of the value of human life and should therefore be considered unless of course you are a utilitarian hedonist. In which case I'd ask you what the point of anything is anyway...
why does everyone think that discriminating genes is a bad thing?? idiots, it's only natural to want the best genes for your child. It's called EVOLUTION. even if they ARE choosing it by having it done in a dish instead of naturally, it's the same deal. screw morality, you could have a healthy child with desired traits. Same as adoption, but you know their genes. so why does it matter?
You make some interesting points. Yet I should stress that if designer babies become a common reality we must change our thinking lest these children become the subject of discrimination. I do not believe this idea will go away despite ethical concerns.
