Drugs are one way of managing pain, but not the ONLY way, and perhaps, not necessarily the best way. There are employers who will not let you work if you are on drugs that may make you dizzy, spacey, slow, uncoordinated, etc. Then, there is the issue of driving while you are on opiates, opiods, or other drugs which may impair your concentration, may interfere with reaction times, etc.. And, there are jobs where they randomly do drug screening, and I have heard of cases where a person was fired for having opiates in their system, even though they were prescribed by a doctor. Some of these opiates and opiods are addictive, may injure your liver long term, and it is possible that the FDA, based on the advice of an advisory panel which voted to BAN Vicodin (Lortab, Norco, and other names), Darvon, Darvocet, Percocet, and Percodan, and it is possible that the FDA may BAN Vicodin and the rest.
Also, some folks who start out taking pain killers, get used to their levels and it takes more and more to get the same pain relief.
Non-drug, drugfree pain management avoids these pitfalls, and if drug free management fails, there is always pharmaceutical management, unless they ban all of those.
