In this video, I want to suggest that devoting a small amount of time to just your picking hand, is very beneficial. There are many ways to develop speed but as usual I want to show a basic approach.
This is an edited version as the original went over 10 minutes. View the full video on my site http://www.guitarordinaire.com along with a power tab for this lesson.

GuitarOrdinaire.com is a free guitar instructional website that offers videos for beginner to intermediate guitarists. I wanted to share my knowledge to help people get a jump start on the basics and avoid obstacles that can slow down progress and frustrate individuals.
I try to take my time explaining things the best I can and the videos often exceed YouTubes 10 minute limit. As a result I am forced to edit some of the versions on YouTube. My goal is to have all of the videos on the website in their entirety along with any tab that pertains to the lesson. I have about 80 videos planned, but it will take some time to complete them all.

Please e-mail me with any comments or lessons requests and I will do the best I can to help you out. This is a big project but it is something I am happy to do and I am glad to have the opportunity to help people make music.

  • the hard part is going FAST while picking 4 times per note on scales.. hard to keep rythem while bouncing between strings..

  • I agree, changing strings is the hardest part for most players. I think that if you focus on the pick hand and getting speed (cleanly), then run your scales (or parts of scales), it may make it easier. I really believe that if you practice slowly for a while (like a week?), your hands will remember and speed will be the natural conclusion. Everyone has their own challenges and it helps to single those out and beat them down until they obey your will.

    Thanks for looking!

  • Talk too much.

  • yeah.. i'm great at alternate and one pick per note picking scales.. pretty fast sounds pretty good.. but whenever i try to speed pick a scale it just doesn't sound right.. like i'm not getting enough notes in at a time for it to be "true shred".. another thing is when i speed pick things get buzzy.. fuck idk man..

  • Thanks again!
