um, no that would be a persision(if only i could spell) it all depends on personal preference really, i have both, it all depends on the sound your looking for, both can be used successfully for "punk" dan adriano(if its not spelt right sue me) of alkaline trio uses a jazz, chris #2 of Anti-flag uses a geddy lee signature jazz bass. so just go into a music store and try shit out.

Dan uses a precision bass more now. Mark hoppus uses his signiture jazz, which actually has a precision bass neck. I personally think jazz is good for anything - its good for punk :) but precision is good for punk too. Definately go Fender in any case (or Squire like raggimuffin xD)
