Each spring, Lost Lake on Santiam Pass (Oregon) fills full with snow melt, and fisherman go after its trout from float tubes. But by fall, Lost Lake drains out and becomes a marshland. In the late 1980s or early 1990s, rumor has it the Santiam Flycasters out of Salem attempted to plug the hole(s), and I certainly recall excellent fly fishing for brook trout, rainbow trout and atlantic salmon about then. But by the mid 1990s, it seemed the water was draining out faster than ever, and I gave up fishing there. I don't know how many drain holes exist, but here was one I found on 9/30/2010.
Wow... so this is basically where the lake drains underground into Clear Lake below?
