illyB is playing the quica, which is a stick inside a drum body attached to a drum skin. The sound comes from stroking the stick. The drum skin is an amplifier. I first heard the quica in Gato Barbieri's orchestras from his 1970 albums. Brazilian percussion is awesome for jazz and funk.

Tune's called "Swamp Road"...not sure who wrote it (not an MMW original).
Medeski recorded a version with DJ Logic for some organ compilation CD......

is this at cochella?

haha, I was at the show the day after this in Ann Arbor MI.... one of the best shows of my life

I love Medeski's tone. Keyboard is a hard instrument on which to have a distinctive tone, and John's a total tone nut. Love it!

FUCKING AWESOME!
-
martin is playing a cuica (brazilian)
just because they are using similar instrumentation as the ending to "I wanna ride you" doesnt mean its that song.

The keys with the tube attatched is a melodica, My guess would be Hohner since that's the brand of clav he usually jams on and also uses a string performer quite often. I dunno what martin is playin with but I've heard that groove before that they go into halfway through, it's at the end of one of the tracks on Uninvisible called "I Wanna Ride You"
