Well maybe if JB Hi Fi wasnt selling albums for $25+ that are 4+ years old, id consider it...

To see most of these people/bands live is not much money either. Ive seen Frenzal Rhomb, possibly Australia's biggest ever punk export for 28 bucks. And that was only last year. The Aust music scene is pretty awesome, I think paying a bit of money for an album wouldn't kill some people to keep it alive.

labels are now taking a piece of the live sales and merchandise. this trend has been in motion in the U.S for at least 2 or so years now, and it's getting harder for bands to stay afloat and receive the appropriate amount of exposure without label input and record sales. bands need labels, and labels need bands. an artist can start up a label independently, but they generally only tend to be successful if they already have a reputation.

downloads are the single greatest thing to happen to the music industry in the last 15 years. Artists make bugger all out of record sales, it's the the labels that lose out. the same labels that are responsible for pushing commercial crap on the public day in day out. who cares if they go extinct! bands promote themselves these days, and it puts the pressure back on for giving good live shows. anyone can make a song sound good in a studio but bands need to be good live these days. Lindsay ROCKS!
