This is part two of two of the video "Detecting Tornadoes" (that's not its original name, for whatever reason the producers of this videotape decided to rename it. The original title of this film was "Tornado - A Spotter's Guide" and was made in 1977). It is an old training video for storm spotters. Footage of various tornadoes are shown.

There are some occasional glitches seen in the video because this tape is over ten years old and is quite worn, not to mention it runs at EP speed.

*UPDATED*

I'm going to attempt to identify which tornadoes are used in this video. Some of the tornadoes I don't know at all and will mark them with four question marks (????). Some of the tornadoes I'm not 100% sure about and will list what tornado I think it is but will place two question marks at the end (??). If anybody knows which tornadoes these are or if I labeled any of the tornadoes wrong please inform me so I can correct/update it.

  • 0:51-1:00 the anti-cyclonic member of Jordan, IA tornado family 6/13/76

  • Thanks for the information!

  • 0:24-0:44 is footage from the Ash Valley chase. 0:44-0:51 might also be, but im not sure.

  • Thanks, I'll go ahead and identify both as Ash Valley.

  • why do they make it look old. I saw a video with that ash tornado and it was modern

  • Well the videotape I captured it from is pretty old and worn out, plus it didn't have the best picture quality even when it was brand new.

  • 1966-1976 tornadoes none in the 1990's.

  • at the key stone is 0:19-0:23.

  • Lemont, IL had an anticyclonic tornado hit the same day the anti-cyclo hit Jordan. The Lemont anticyclonic was also a "companion" to a much more powerful violent wedge (Lemont F4). ColonelAngus75 - you still have the most interesting and extraordinary mix of tornado video on YouTube! Thanks as always! :-)

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Dr Ted Fujita said in an interview he considered the Jordan Tornado the most powerful he has personally did the damage study on.

  • You do a great job identifying these tornadoes

  • The "half mile wide" tornado from 2:20 to 2:28 is the Jordan Iowa tornado, missed Ames, IA and Iowa State Universty by about 4 miles.

  • Union City, Oklahoma was truly a historic making event because it marked the very first tornado chase I believe.

  • 1:00 f5 looks like nasty tornado there
