Its the genes...pet rats were used and still used for lab work...most die from tumors and cancer because of gene work that they use in science. Because science messes with the genes its passed on to the babies.
Most wild rats die from starvation or animals killng them. They dont die from tumors and cancer.
haha wow i know.....ummm one of my rats was supposed to have a brain tumor and have less than a month to live but that was 2-3months ago and he might have had a stroke all my rats are healthy and no lumps! i have 12 now but sadly 2 have died..... =[ but i cant believe that was 9 months ago
female rats are very prone to tumours unfortunately. Speying has proven to be very succesful in stopping them though and stops the chance of getting infected uteruses wich is also common. My female rat is speyed for these reasons. =)

80-90% of rats get tumors. It's a sad fact.
