In Jamaica education is a top priority. There are a variety of school options, from private to government run and kids as young as 2 - 3 year old are enrolled in kindergarten. The most a government can do for it's people is to ensure a bright future for the next generation. We visited here while staying at the FDR Pebbles Resort.

Some of the very old Jamaicans I have met seem to be functionally illiterate. The literacy rate for the young people between the ages of 15-24 in Jamaica is between 92-98% with the girls doing better than the boys and the adult literacy rate is 87.6%. I still find that although the Jamaican government has focussed a lot on education in recent years, there are still some young people in their twenties and thirties who have very elementary level reading and writing skills.

@biglipbandit267 thanks for the confirmation. Due to the fact that the lady's information is inaccurate, maybe these videos need to be deleted. its funny how this education coordinator is missleading everyone that views this video with her so called "false information". Overall considering ja is a 3rd world country, EVERYONE should know how to read and write. pick up a book and put down the gun. my point exactly. low mi nuh bloodclaat!

So not true. The lady's information is inaccurate. Do your own research before you make senseless comments. The literacy rate is currently at 86% and that is not bad being that Jamaica is considered a 3rd world country.
