Side by side Sony HDR XR500 vs. Canon HF S100 Image stabilization comparison. THIS SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR IMAGE QUALITY COMPARISON. This is not a high resolution file by any means and iris and white balance settings may be set to other than auto. The intent here is to show how steady the two cameras are when set upon the same solid surface. I still believe the Canon has a crisper, somewhat better quality image. But for image stabilization, the Sony is the clear winner.

The Sony just looks like you need to adjust the white balance properly - The Sony looks harsh. Sony looks WAY smoother though. Which one is your personal fav?

@bigkingsha - Thank you for your comment. You're probably right. I had not taken time to set cameras other than placing them on my dashboard. Sony may have had low-light switched on. But as noted, this should be used for image stabilization purposes only.

For the record. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS CLIP TO JUDGE IMAGE QUALITY. IT IS AN IMAGE STABILITY COMPARISON ONLY. WB, gain, exposure, etc., are not properly set in these clips. I'm seeing a lot of comments suggesting that the Canon is better in this clip. I believe, and have experienced that the Canon does produce a somewhat better quality image. But Sony's "super steady shot" technology, by all accounts and as can be seen here, is simply unrivaled.

How do you line up two videos like this overlapping?

I use Final Cut. Place one video on the track and the other above it. Then crop half of the top image revealing other half below.

I compared Canon and Sony and ended up taking the Sony back because it was so jittery when at full zoom. It was not bad up until about 6x zoom.
