This is a really big woodpecker with beautiful contrast between its red head and its black body and pure white on its wings. Compare his size to the folded down deck umbrella in the background that shows in the first few frames!

  • Wow...came across the video and thought i would comment to let you know its a pileate and I see I did three years ago! guess I like birds too much

  • @MerkabaStar

LOL! I learned a lot from you when you made that post. I can't believe so much time has passed. :-) I need to figure out how to change the title of this video to "pileated".

  • I have one that hangs around my house? I live in wisconsin and he is a pretty sight for me to see?I rarely ever have seen one up close he has been around our trees in the front yard, I get all excited when i see him he is huge and pretty. will they eat from birdfeeders??? if so what do they eat and like?

  • @barbj7121

I have not seen them eat from birdfeeders. It seems like they enjoy the bugs in older trees, or in the bark.

  • Where was this taken? I just saw one in my garden in Toronto, Canada.

  • @thekvm It was taken in the Missouri ozarks

  • @BigDuckKetterer it's a pileated

  • @Ozarkians Yes just go to "my videos" in your account then click on edit. I changed the title of the one little video I have a while back.

  • TenStarsplus !!!!!! That is either a Pilieated woodpecker, or an extremely rare Ivory Billed Woodpecker, which is believed to be extinct!! You should notify your DNR of your sighting, to find out which one it is especially if you live in Arkansas!!! Thanks for posting this beautiful video!!! We have Pileateds up here in Michigan, but I've never seen one closer than 150 yards and only when I was duck hunting in a flooded woods!!! TenStarsplus!!!

  • i just put up a video of a redheaded, with a funny shadow play at the end. but i wish i could get a video of a pileated! thanks nice
